Spectral

Spectral explores loss, change, and connection through the ethereal presence of deer—their ghosts and skeletons—symbols of both memory and our fragile future. Drawing on my Sámi heritage and its nomadic traditions with reindeer, I reflect on living in rhythm with nature and its seasons.

These works speak to climate change, permafrost loss, habitat decline, and chronic wasting disease. The imagery merges with my Weathering series, capturing both decay and resilience. While deer embody what we’ve lost, they also hold hope for renewal. Spectral is both elegy and call—inviting viewers to reckon with history while imagining a more balanced future.
